A picture perfect Rube Goldberg machine!

This item was filled under [ News ]

The creative team at 2D Photography Inc. have incorporated some BRILLIANT geeky fun into their latest project – a working Rube Goldberg machine… that actually takes a photo (two, to be precise!)

The guys have been hard at work on this project since the idea came about in November of 2010.  That’s a pretty labour-intensive endeavour for something that isn’t even a photo shoot.

But, as is the way with projects undertaken out of love, this bad boy is pretty darn amazing.

See for yourself!

And here’s a bit of an explanation of the logistics involved.

Why not pop on by the 2D Photography Blog and let the guys what you think!

Sort Shots: the ONLY app for finding photos on your iPad!

This item was filled under [ Contests & Promotions, Gear, News ]

Oh, sure you can manually scroll around looking for certain photos… but wouldn’t it be nice to put that all that metadata & EXIF info to use?

Well, now you can with this cool new app for your Apple iPad and iPad2.  Sort Shots is the easiest way to sort, sequence and share your photographs on your Apple iPad.

The app uses keywords & tags added to your photographs using any number of popular photo software packages  to find your photos on your iPad.  You can also add tags to your photos via your iPad & Sort Shots – just create custom tags within Sort Shots  and add the tags to your images.  The tags are then added to your photo’s EXIF/metadata, so when you export your images back to your computer, the tags will appear without any additional work.

Once tags are imported with your images or added in Sort Shots, you can find all of your photographs associated with a specific word with just a single tap.  Too many results? You can add additional sort criteria to reduce the results (tags, type, favorite or rating).

Sort Shots also lets you rate your images with a one to five star by tapping on the rating OR note it as a favorite by tapping on the heart symbol.

Don’t like the order in which your images appear? Rearrange to any order you like by using a drag n ‘drop motion.  You can save the sort/sequence for easy retrieval or create an ‘on-the-fly’ photo portfolio at any time.

Sort Shots also lets you incorporate your iTunes Library into its sideshow option that will play in full-screen mode with a constant display of photo file names.

And, since no photo app would be complete without a sharing component, Sort Shots lets you E-mail, assign to a contact, copy or share one or more images on Facebook, Twitter,  Flickr or Picasa.

We think it’s a pretty cool little app. And we want to know what you think of it, too.

The Art of Paper: Canson Infinity & Louvre partner for exhibit

This item was filled under [ News ]

An historic exhibition opened earlier this month at the world-famous Louvre Museum in Paris, featuring seventy works on paper by some fifty artists active between the fifteenth century and today.

Le Papier à l’oeuvre – The Art of Paper opened June 9 and runs until September 5, 2011 & features works selected from the print and drawing collections of three museums in Paris — the Musée du Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, and the Centre Pompidou — as well as from a number of other French collections.

The artists represented use a variety of techniques and tools on all kinds of paper: white or colored, transparent or not, and either found, reused or carefully chosen. Paper may be marked, stamped, overlaid, assembled or cut out, pasted, stapled or even stuck with pins.

Drawings may be executed on fine art papers selected according to very precise criteria, or by using the first piece of paper that comes to hand. Artists may also tear, perforate or burn their paper, but always in order to better underscore particular aspects of the material, paying
tribute to this treasured medium.

By setting works of artists from different generations and different centuries against each other, the exhibition seeks to illustrate the ways in which paper plays an essential role in the art of drawing.

Organized into five sections, the exhibition aims to inspire comparisons between old masters and modern artists and to reveal the wide range of technical and aesthetic approaches used.

The link between Canson and the Louvre is not something new. Canson has been sponsoring the museum’s educational workshops since 2006. In 2010, a new step was reached.  Driven by a common goal, the two partners have intensified their links to provide greater support to the creation of artwork on paper.

Musée du Louvre

Salle de la Chapelle, Sully Wing
• Exhibition open daily (except Tuesdays) from 9am – 6 pm and until 10pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.
• Access to the exhibition is included in the purchase of an admission to the museum’s permanent collections: €10.
