Henrieta Haniskova Gears up for Elvis

Check out this video that gives us a day-in-the-life glimpse into photographer Henrieta Haniskova‘s world. Henrieta was one of Vistek’s CONTACT Portfolio Reviews Exhibition Award winners in 2010 and her project documenting 50 Elvis tribute artists from the Collingwood Elvis Festival (an annual Ontario event that’s been running for close to 20 years!)has been receiving acclaim wherever it’s presented.

Magnum Workshop Toronto at Contact 2011

Once again, CONTACT will be playing host to the Magnum Photo Workshops during this year’s festival during the month of May.

The Magnum Workshop Toronto is a five day practice-oriented workshop that seeks to provide personal photographic growth in an intimate and intensive environment.

During the workshop, students will participate in an intimate shooting workshop with their choice of one of seven Magnum Photographers: Bruno Barbey, Chien-Chi Chang, Bruce Gilden, David Alan Harvey, Eli Reed, Larry Towell and Donovan Wylie. In addition to the dynamic within each workshop, there will also be ample informal time for cross pollination of viewpoints and commentary with the other teachers as well as the other students.

Participants will produce individual projects over the course of five days with daily review and editing sessions within their groups. Focusing on story formation, visual literacy, and personal vision, these intimate, intensive masterclasses form the center of the Magnum Workshop Toronto. Prior to the workshop, each accepted applicant will be sent specific directives from their selected workshop leader.

CONTACT 2010 Portfolio Reviews

In partnership with The Gladstone Hotel, portfolio reviews will once again be a part of CONTACT in a 2-day event Sunday, May 2 & Monday, May 3.

Award winning image from CONTACT 2008 Portfolio Reviews Roger Lemoyne is currently in Haiti on assignment for Unicef.

Curators, art dealers, directors, publishers and photo editors are assembled for an extraordinary two days during CONTACT to provide portfolio reviews for established and emerging artists and photographers in commercial or fine art photography. Some of the most highly respected international professionals in the field will provide one-on-one critiques of photo-based works. The event is a platform for those with developed projects that are seeking opportunities for publishing and exhibiting nationally or internationally, as well as guidance on conceptual approaches or career development.

Portfolio Reviews Exhibition Award

Reviewers will award two selected participants with a solo exhibition presented by the CONTACT Gallery and Toronto Image Works Gallery, both located at the historic 80 Spadina Ave. building.  Vistek is pleased to provide each winner of the with a gift certificate valued at $1,000.

The Magnum Photo Workshop at Contact 2010 is now accepting applications:

MAGNUM PHOTOS WORKSHOP
Participate in an intimate five day shooting workshop with your choice of one of five Magnum Photographers: Stuart Franklin, Constantine Manos, Alec Soth, Chris Steele-Perkins and Alex Webb with Rebecca Norris Webb. In addition to the dynamic within each workshop, focusing on story formation, visual literacy, and personal vision, there will also be ample informal time for cross pollination of viewpoints and discussion with all participants. Tuition: $1300 USD

MAGNUM IN MOTION WORKSHOP
Designed for intermediate multimedia producers, the Magnum in Motion workshop aims at enhancing photographers’ multimedia storytelling skills. The goal of the workshop is for each participant to produce a personal and professional multimedia essay and/or to refine an existing essay. In addition to creating a unique story under the guidance of Magnum photographer Chien-Chi Chang and MIM’s Producer Adrian Kelterborn, participants will gain insight into the history and modus operandi of Magnum in Motion. Tuition: $1600 USD.

Contact 2010: the Vistek gallery space winners!

contactlogoCongratulations to David Goorevitch & Anice Wong – whose talent has earned them free gallery space at Vistek Toronto and Vistek Mississauga, respectively, during this year’s Contact Photography Festival.  Their work will be on display from May 1 to June 15.

CONTACT runs from May 1 – 31 across the GTA at exhibition venues and  non-traditional exhibition spaces such as community centres, studios, cafes, shops, and restaurants.

CONTACT: 2009 MFA Documentary Media Discussion

contact2As part of this years’ CONTACT festival, Ryerson University is presenting MFA Documentary Media Discussion – a select artist presentation and panel discussion  moderated by Esther Choi.

This free event takes place May 21 at 7pm in Jorgenson Hall (350 Victoria St.) and features guest speakers  Tori Foster, Ryan Gauvin, Lara Rosenoff and Marie Wustner.

Bringing together documentarians from a broad spectrum of backgrounds, the Master of Fine Arts in Documentary Media program at Ryerson is home to students producing works that find their roots in fine art, photojournalism, anthropology and experimental media.
