Have a quick look at some of the key features on the new Sony NXCAM!
Sony announced, this week, the launch of the HXR-NX5U camcorder: the first of their NXCAM Generation of camcorders. The new HXR-NX5U camcorder is the first product of the NXCAM generation from Sony, and a new category of tapeless memory camcorder, providing an ideal balance of power and performance in the digital age
This bad boy has some serious bells & whistles: In addition to its using the revolutionary AVCHD format, the HXR-NX5U features dual memory slots, allowing you to record on affordable consumer memory cards. It also features simultaneous hybrid recording (with use of the optional HXR-FMU128 memory unit) – meaning you can shoot in High Def and Standard Def… at the same time.
Vistek – along with Sony’s Brian Young – is giving you the opportunity to check this camera out next Thursday, Jan. 14 in two free seminars at the Toronto location.
The Free NXCAM Launch Event takes place in two sessions: the first part at at 10am will provide a complete tutorial on the new Sony HXR-NX5U camera. You will not only learn its functionality and workflow capabilities, but also where it fits into the marketplace; the 2pm session provides a refresher on the EX family of Sony cameras – including available firmware upgrades as well as Media options that are now available for the EX line-up.
Event attendees will also be able to take advantage of Special Event Pricing on select Sony Products!

What’s that, you say? A party shot that actually helps you focus the camera?
The premise may sound like a late-night comedy TV commercial spoof, but the Sony Party-Shot is, in fact, the real deal. You know how it goes: you throw a party, everyone has a great time, you take a ton of photos… but it looks like you weren’t there since you don’t show up in any of your shots (tough to do when you’re the one taking them, right?)
The good folks at Sony have made it THAT much easier to capture great party photos (or incriminating evidence, depending on how you look at it) without having to snap a single shot yourself.
The tiny Ansel Adams-bot can keep up the photoshoot for up to 12 hours, but it’s currently only compatible with the Cyber-shot® DSC-TX1 & DSC-WX1. You can sit the robotic shutterbug on either a tabletop or a tripod, configure the simple set-up and then let it go to town.
Working with your camera’s Face Detection and Smile Detection technologies, the Party-Shot whirs to life – rotating, tilting, zooming, and flashing in your guests’ faces to automatically capture photographs in natural poses. Though we have to wonder how natural folks will feel with a tiny robotic camera seemingly chasing them around the room?
The price tag isn’t too hefty either, so compatible camera owners (or those looking to buy a new point & shoot with some cool new accessories) will appreciate the new technology.
Already available in GB, 8GB and 16GB capacities, Sony has a newer, faster, bigger version of its Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo HX — the Super-High Capacity 32GB Memory Stick.
For use with cameras like Sony α (Alpha) DSLRs or Cybershot point & shoots, this bad boy is great for vast image storage but is ideally suited to High Def video capture.
It’s size (32GB), combined with it’s read/write speeds (20MB/s & 15MB/s), make this card an outstanding addition to any HD-video enthusiasts arsenal – whether the means of recording be an HD camcorder or a DSLR or point & shoot with HD video capture capability). In fact, camcorder users can shoot in Full HD mode (1920 x 1080) for an impressive 225 minutes using one of these, virtually eliminating the nagging worry about how much space is left. Whether you’re working with huge RAW file sizes, HD video files or simply don’t want to ever worry about running out of memory space, this card seems ideal. And the included USB adapter offers PC transfer speeds of 20MB/s. Not too shabby.
